Until this year, light strings for around 20 more trees have been procured by the destination company in Östersund.

It is an investment that has been going on for several years to light up the city during the darkest time of the year.

- Until this year, we have also dressed up several old wooden houses in the center and this is just the beginning.

There are more property owners who are waiting in line, says Peter Martinek at Destination Östersund when SVT meets him on the pedestrian street.

Cheap to operate

The cost of buying in the loops is borne by traders and property owners via the joint destination company.

The operating costs also fall to the greatest extent on the property owners.

- Yes, only ten percent of the loops are connected to the municipal electricity grid.

But the loops are so cheap to operate these days that no trader complains.

It is not only Östersund that is decorated.

Both Brunflo and Lit have had trees wrapped in string lights.

Next year, Torvalla and Lugnvik will also be lit up.
