Al-Sudani said during a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, "The government is pursuing a policy of openness and cooperation in its foreign relations with Iraq's regional and international environment," according to a statement by the Iraqi government.

For his part, the Russian president extended congratulations to the Iraqi prime minister on the occasion of forming the government, stressing Russia's keenness to develop relations with Iraq, and its desire to develop it and open horizons for mutual cooperation.
