Disciplinary procedures in such cases provide for different levels, starting with a warning or a so-called suspension up to removal from the judicial service.

Due to the independence of the judges, however, neither the management of the authorities nor the Ministry of Justice is responsible for a suspension, but the judges' service court at the regional court, and in the next higher instance the service court at the higher regional court.

As reported, the public prosecutor's office in Frankfurt has initiated proceedings against the judge on suspicion of violating private secrets and perverting the law.

According to a spokeswoman for the authorities, he is said to have provided a lawyer friend with information from a procedure in which the two had to do with each other.

The information is said to have been content from court deliberations.

His offices at the court and his home were therefore searched.

The lawyer is himself a suspect in proceedings on suspicion of drug trafficking, which the Hanau public prosecutor's office is conducting against him and a second lawyer from Frankfurt, among others.

The second lawyer is now in custody.
