A 35-year-old man appeared this Wednesday before the Castres court to answer for homicide and involuntary injuries.
Facts dating back to November 8, 2021 in Navès (Tarn).
That day, he had wanted to escape a check by the gendarmes who had noticed that he was not wearing a belt, reports
La Dépêche du Midi
.
The man had first burned a stop sign and then lost control of his vehicle at a level crossing, before rolling over four times.
He fled when help arrived.
Except that he was not alone in his very poorly maintained car: his partner and his two children aged two and five were with him, as well as his seven-year-old cousin.
The latter had been ejected 30 meters from the vehicle.
She died a few moments later.
The other passengers were slightly injured.
When help arrived, the driver fled but was arrested a few days later.
The man was sentenced to four years in prison, one year suspended.
