Since 2019, when the conflict with the Islamic State armed group ended in Syria, about 60,000 Syrians, Iraqis and third-country nationals, mostly women and children, have been detained in the al-Hol camp without access to due process, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, OHCHR.

In the camp there are individuals with varying degrees of connection to IS, but also thousands of individuals without any connection to them and who flocked to the camp fleeing the conflict in Syria.

Sohr: The attack targeted Kurdish forces

But according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which follows the situation in Syria through a network of sources in the country, the attack was aimed at the Kurdish forces guarding the outskirts of the camp.

Unverified images from the al-Hol camp purporting to show the attack are circulating on social media.

According to sources in Sohr, chaos must have broken out among the camp's residents after the attacks.
