At 1:21 pm local time yesterday (21st), an earthquake of magnitude 5.6 occurred in Qianjur Regency, West Java, Indonesia.

Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency said more than 46 people were killed and hundreds injured in the quake.

However, the Qianzur provincial government explained that more than 50 people have been killed so far, and the number of injured is expected to rise over 700 people.

The Korean Embassy in Indonesia said that there were seven Koreans living in the Qianzur area, but it was confirmed that there were no casualties.

The earthquake was such that buildings shook and vibrations were felt even in Jakarta, the capital city, which is about 70 km away from Qianjur in a straight line.

[Resident in Jakarta, Indonesia: I usually feel a slight vibration when people move in a building, but this time the vibration was strong as if someone was pushing me from the side.]
