President Emmanuel Macron spoke about France's visa policy, vis-à-vis the Maghreb countries, whose firmness is proving effective according to him.

Since September 2021, the executive has been trying to impose a 50% refusal rate on visa applications for Moroccans and Algerians and 30% for Tunisians.

Firmness on immigration is proving effective, according to Emmanuel Macron.

The Head of State defends this firm policy of France on visas.

Since September 2021, the executive has been trying to impose a 50% refusal rate on visa applications for Moroccans and Algerians and 30% for Tunisians.

And even if these official objectives seem never to have been really achieved, the president considers that the hardening displayed leads the Maghreb countries to readmit more irregular migrants on French soil.

"Returns are made easier", says Macron

"This heat stroke of the last few months has had an effect, and now we see that returns are facilitated", notes Emmanuel Macron.

However, difficulties persist.

The Maghreb countries remain reluctant to grant the consular laissez-passer necessary for the expulsion of their nationals.

Moreover, this issue of visas contributes to blowing an icy wind, particularly on the relationship between France and Morocco.

But Emmanuel Macron assumes his policy.

"I think that at least we have had a debate in truth in recent months, and the susceptibility is on both sides. France has the right to be susceptible too", defends the head of state.

A reciprocal susceptibility which, in any case according to the president, does not call into question economic, academic or even political mobility.
