Renewable fuels in public transport are a weak area for Region Jönköping County.

A share of renewable fuel of 86 percent only ranks 17th nationally, even though the share has increased by 6 percent in the past year.

It is the second worst in the country.

The reason for that placement is that within the county there is relatively extensive train traffic on tracks that are not electrified.

- Work is underway to increase the mixing of renewable fuel in the fuel for the diesel trains and in the longer term several lines within the county will be electrified, says traffic director Carl-Johan Sjöberg at Jönköping's county traffic.

In the clip above, he explains why they have not already switched to biodiesel in the diesel-powered trains.

First in the overall assessment

Apart from public transport, Region Jönköping County does well in the environmental comparison.

So much so that in the combined assessment for the third year in a row, it was ranked first among the country's regions.
