The man was arrested at the end of October and risked a long prison sentence.

The alarm to the staff at the Correctional Service came at the beginning of November.

He was taken to hospital and treated for several days before he died.

Investigated as suicide

Josefin Skoglund, head of the Department of Correctional Services' section for special investigations, confirms that the man's death is being investigated as a suicide.

- We have started an investigation regarding a serious act of self-harm.

Then we get information that he has died and reclassify it as suicide, says Josefin Skoglund, head of the Department of Correctional Services' section for special investigations.

How do you see something like this being able to happen?

- It is extremely serious and that is why we work with suicide prevention work.

We will map out what the last time looked like if we could do something to avoid that event.

According to Josefin Skoglund, there is currently nothing to indicate that something has broken down in the detention center's routines.

Conversations must also be held with those who worked when the man was found.

- We try to work as quickly as possible.

Suspect of murder in Malmö

On July 22, a man in his 30s was found dead in an apartment in Hyllie in Malmö.

A fire had also broken out in the apartment.

The public prosecutor's office writes in a press release that the now-deceased man had been linked to the deed.

- He has admitted that he used violence, but denied the crime.

A preliminary investigation is still ongoing, but there is no reason to investigate other suspects, says District Attorney Helena Lundström in a press release.

Relatives have been notified.
