Often there are places that are inaccessible for wheelchair users, but also difficult to reach for those carrying a child in a stroller.

It is complicated to plan a move or make a journey to reach a new place and once you arrive, you are stuck outside, or you cannot sit at the table, or access the toilet.

“It's an all too familiar experience to the 130 million wheelchair users around the world who have difficulty using stairs.

Now there is a way to get to your destination prepared",

underlines Google Maps announcing the "Accessible places" feature, a filter to be inserted in the app to find information on

accessibility for wheelchair users

for over 40 million locations worldwide, including Italy.

To take advantage of the service, simply

turn on the "Accessible places" setting in the Google Maps app

.

A wheelchair icon ♿ will appear on a particular business's profile if the entrance is wheelchair accessible, and the same icon crossed out if it's an inaccessible location.

“To help you plan future moves, you can see if a given venue has accessible seating, restrooms, and parking.

Thanks to

information provided by business owners and contributions from the Google Maps virtual community

, this feature can also be useful if you want to avoid stairs because you have a stroller, luggage or use a trolley,” Mountain View points out.

If you'd like to

contribute

accessibility details to Google Maps, simply find the Business Profile you want to edit, tap "About" and then "Edit Features."

This feature was created with the support and commitment of over

120 million Local Guides, the international community

of explorers who write reviews, share photos, answer questions, add or correct places.

The arrival of "Accessible Places" in all countries of the world, and not only in Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States where it has been present since 2020, is a milestone in the journey to build

an ever more inclusive and more useful map for everyone
