21 people died as a result of a house fire in the Gaza Strip

A medical and civil defense source said that at least 21 Palestinians were killed in a fire that broke out Thursday evening in a house in the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip.

Salah Abu Laila, director of the Indonesian Hospital in Jabalia, said, "At least 21 charred bodies arrived at the Indonesian Hospital as a result of a fire in a building belonging to the Abu Raya family in Jabalia."

An official of the Civil Defense in Gaza, who arrived at the scene of the fire, told reporters, "We pulled out many bodies and transferred the injured to the Indonesian Hospital," explaining that the Civil Defense "made tremendous efforts to put out the fire, but our capabilities are very modest."

The spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, Iyad Al-Bozom, confirmed in a statement that civil defense crews "finished extinguishing the fire that broke out in a building in Jabalia camp," noting that preliminary investigations indicated "the presence of benzene stored inside the house, which led to the massive outbreak of fire and the occurrence of a number of deaths." .

Eyewitnesses stated that the fire was massive and broke out on the third floor of the three-storey house.
