The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, said that the Iranian nuclear program is showing great progress, and that the agency notes the high levels of uranium enrichment.

Today, Wednesday, the work of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency began in the Austrian capital, Vienna, and will continue for 3 days. The Board is expected to discuss within its work the extent of Iran's commitment to its nuclear obligations and cooperation with the Agency.

Diplomatic sources said that the council will discuss a draft resolution condemning what it described as Iran's lack of cooperation with the IAEA regarding the presence of nuclear materials in unauthorized sites.

Grossi added - in statements before the start of the meetings - that the suspension of surveillance cameras in Iranian nuclear facilities increased points of ambiguity regarding some Iranian activities.

However, he stressed that the situation did not get out of control, and it is still possible to obtain the information that the International Atomic Energy Agency is looking for, as he put it.

For its part, the US mission in Vienna said that Iran's production of highly enriched uranium by up to 60% cannot have peaceful purposes.

Iranian warning

On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian warned of the consequences of any non-constructive American and European measures in the IAEA Board of Governors.

Abdullahian said that the United States is pressuring his country, by threatening to impose sanctions, to force it to abandon its red lines regarding the nuclear agreement.

The Iranian minister stressed that his country will respond in an effective and proportionate manner in the event of any decision issued against it at the Human Rights Council meeting.

For his part, the head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Agency, Mohammad Eslami, said that his country will reject any decision issued against it by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency and will consider it without value.

He added that the draft against Tehran shows that the opposing parties do not have good faith, as he put it.

Today, Wednesday, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) quoted an Islamist as saying that there is no visit by the International Atomic Energy Agency of the United Nations to Iran on the agenda.

Eslami added that Tehran hopes to achieve good results if the agency pursues a professional path away from political considerations.

Grossi had stated - last week in a report - that a meeting would be held at the end of this November to address the issue of 3 facilities in which traces of uranium were discovered, despite Iran's failure to declare nuclear activities there.

This issue represented a major point of divergence during the talks to revive the 2015 agreement on Iran's nuclear program, which have stalled since the beginning of last September.

The 2015 agreement allowed the lifting of sanctions on Tehran in return for reducing its nuclear activities and ensuring the peacefulness of its programme.

However, the United States withdrew from it in 2018, re-imposing sanctions on Iran, which - in turn - responded by gradually retracting most of its commitments.
