India has announced that it will hold joint military exercises with the United States this month in northern states, including disputed areas with China, in an effort to keep China in check over border tensions.

India conducts military exercises jointly with the United States every year, but this month's exercise will be held in Uttarakhand, a state in northern India where the border is not demarcated with China.

The exercise will confirm combat techniques in mountainous areas and procedures for securing supply routes and transporting casualties under severe terrain and bad weather.

India has had long-standing border tensions with China, and a clash in 2020 resulted in military casualties on both sides.

India is also focusing on strengthening its navy in view of China, which is strengthening its maritime expansion, and conducted joint exercises with Japan, the United States, and Australia in the Pacific Ocean around Japan until the 15th.

By conducting military exercises with the United States in areas including disputed areas with China, India is believed to be aiming to check China, which is in a state of tension over borders.
