Jay Leno has been hospitalized with severe burns

after one of his cars caught fire in his garage in Los Angeles.

Leno himself told Variety.

"I've had some bad burns.

I'm fine. I just need a week or two to get back on my feet," the former 'The Tonight Show' host said in a statement sent to the magazine. 

According to what was reconstructed by the TMZ website, Leno, who is a car collector,

was working on one of his vehicles in the garage when the fire broke out.

The host, 72, was treated at the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles.

On Sunday, Leno canceled a conference appearance in Las Vegas.

Leno would be out of danger but will have to stay still for at least two weeks

.

All of his shows have been cancelled.

The flames wounded Leno on the left side of the face, but did not reach the eye.

At the moment, the family did not want to provide further details on the conductor's conditions.
