Two conditions for obtaining a virtual work visa in the UAE

The Federal Authority for Identity, Nationality, Customs and Ports Security has made it possible, through the smart services system, to apply for a virtual work residence visa, which is issued for a period of one year, subject to renewal.

And it specified two conditions for granting a virtual work residence permit: the first is that the applicant submits evidence of his work for an entity outside the country, that the work is done remotely, and that he submits evidence that he has obtained a monthly income of not less than 3,500 US dollars, or its equivalent in foreign currencies.

It also requires the applicant to bring a colored personal photo, a copy of the passport of the beneficiary of the service, and a certificate of good conduct certified by the home country, which is (optional), noting that the compulsory and optional documents may differ according to the data entered in the application.

Those wishing to obtain a virtual work residence visa can access the smart services system of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security, using a digital identity or with the user’s name, search for the service to be applied for, fill in the application data, where applicable, and finally pay the service fee.

The authority stated that the visa application fee is 100 dirhams, and the issuance fee is 100 dirhams, in addition to 50 dirhams for the electronic services and the federal authority fees, noting that the service fees may vary according to the data entered in the application.

The UAE government introduced a virtual work residence permit, the first of its kind in the region, within the new visa system, which enables a foreigner to enter the UAE on his personal sponsorship and stay there for a year, and to practice his virtual job, according to the conditions and controls issued with the visa.

The virtual work residence visa, within the executive regulations of the Law on Entry and Residence of Foreigners, allows any foreign employee to reside in the Emirates and continue to practice his work remotely with his employer who is abroad.

The regulation stipulates that “the Federal Authority for Identity, Nationality, Customs and Ports Security may grant a foreigner a residence permit for virtual work without a guarantor (host) for a renewable year, whenever he is practicing remote work for an entity outside the country.”

The digital government confirmed that this approach will contribute to attracting minds and talents, and employing expertise and human resources in remote work, to achieve and raise the level of productivity in the national economy and other vital sectors.
