Two intense days, full of meaning and full of appointments, to show everyone that the Italian government is not isolated, as some would have you believe.

After Cop27 in Egypt,

Giorgia Meloni

went to Indonesia (with her daughter Ginevra) for her

second international summit

since she has been at Palazzo Chigi.

The bilaterals, from Xi to Modi

At the G20 in

Bali

, Italy wants to demonstrate that it can assume a central role.

The summit will therefore be an opportunity for the Prime Minister to address the main issues on the global agenda also through a series of

bilateral meetings

already included in the agenda.

First of all

, those with the president of the United States,

Joe Biden

, and with the president of the People's Republic of China,

Xi Jinping

.

Then there will also be talks with the Canadian prime minister,

Justin Trudeau

, with the Japanese prime minister,

Fumio Kishida

, with the Turkish president,

Recep Tayyip Erdogan

, with the Indian prime minister,

Narendra Modi

, and with the President of the Republic of Indonesia,

Joko Widodo

.

In short, a busy schedule, which could be further enriched, given that exchanges with other international leaders on the sidelines of the summit are not excluded.

"This trip - the juice of the reasoning filtered through Palazzo Chigi - denies the detractors of Meloni and the government".

The away program shows that "

there is great attention towards Italy

and not that isolation that is being reported elsewhere".

In short, the summary is that “

everyone recognizes Italy's fundamental role

on the international scene”.

The themes of the G20: war in Ukraine, food and energy security, health and digital

But, as we know, the heart of the discussions that will take place at this summit and which will involve the world leaders meeting in Indonesia will be reserved for the consequences of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The war, which has lasted for almost nine months, has highlighted among the global emergencies the intertwined ones of

food

and

energy

security .

The Indonesian presidency of the G20 has incorporated these themes within the

three main pillars

that guide the general setting of the agenda (architecture of

global health

,

sustainable energy transition

,

digital transformation

) and has chosen as its official slogan "

Recover together, recover stronger

”.

Italy – as the outgoing G20 presidency (last year the summit chaired by Mario Draghi at the Nuvola dell'EUR, in Rome) – will deliver its speeches after the Indonesian presidency.

The objective of the November 15-16 summit is to make progress on the issue of food security, tackling the current global crisis with particular attention to developing countries, to prevent hunger and famine in the most vulnerable countries and support the proper functioning of global food chains.

It will also be necessary to strengthen energy security and pursue the commitments on the climate undertaken at the previous Rome summit in 2021, with the

Sharm el-Sheikh Cop27 underway in Egypt

.

Other areas to focus on will be the adoption of measures aimed at achieving stability, transparency and accessibility of energy markets.

The work programme

The program of the

17th summit
