According to information to SVT Nyheter Väst, the reason for the mold is that a refrigerator was mounted against the bathroom wall in the rooms in such a way that the screws went through the drain pipes.

This in turn has caused dampness and eventually mould.

An image that is confirmed by Västfastigheter, which is responsible for the construction.

- It is a refrigerator that has been installed in the rooms in such a way that a hole has been drilled in the sewer line, says Fredrik Sundeus, property manager at Västfastigheter.

How long it will take to renovate the rooms and clean up the mold or how many rooms are affected, Västfastigheter cannot answer today, but asks to get back with an answer.

But according to the director of operations at the hospital, it will be several months before the children can be moved back.

- We have been told that it will take at least 3 months, says Karin Mellgren.

Discovered after routine check

The problems with the mold were discovered after a routine inspection of the premises which was carried out on Wednesday.

- We have had problems with odors in one of the rooms and then a routine check was carried out and it was after that that we found out that we needed to evacuate, says Karin Mellgren.

She emphasizes that the patients will receive exactly the same care in the department they have now been moved to, but that the move has meant a great strain on an already strained care.

- It is an extreme burden on our staff, we have moved the entire department up, she says.

Twice as expensive as planned

The new Queen Silvia's children's hospital was ready at the beginning of 2021 at a cost of approximately 2 billion, twice as much as planned, something SVT Nyheter Väst previously reported on.
