The Chadian transitional president, Mahamat Idriss Déby, concluded, on Monday, November 14, a three-day visit to the Lake Chad region.

He announced the dispatch of 600 additional soldiers to continue the fight against the jihadists of Boko Haram, who are, according to him, weakened, but continue to attack civilian populations.

“

Today, the Boko Haram have no more forces and can no longer attack the barracks

,” declared Mahamat Idriss Déby, after his visit to the regional command post in Baga Sola.

The transitional president assures that the jihadist group no longer has a base in Chadian territory, since the military operation “

Anger of Bohoma

” which would have driven it out in early April 2020.

Mahamat Idriss Déby recognizes, however, that the nuisances persist for the populations, in particular cattle thefts and kidnappings for ransom.

He says he ordered the army to adapt to this "

change in modus operandi

 ", by being "

more mobile

" to protect civilians and their property.

600 men will join the 9,000 already deployed.

Islands still controlled by armed groups

To local notables who insisted on the need for road, health and educational infrastructure, the Head of State promised the relaunch of development activities.

However, several people contacted in the lake region were less optimistic than the transitional president.

They ensure that the various armed groups are increasing their attacks from the islands of Lake Chad, which they continue to control.
