Harry Styles, who was the most predicted winner with a whopping seven nominations, had to settle for the award for best live act.

Nicki Minaj won the heavy award for best song of the year for "Super freaky girl" and also took home the award for best hip-hop.

For the Swedes, it was worse.

Swedish House Mafia and Tove Lo were both nominated in the category best Nordic act, but there the award went to the Norwegian singer Sigrid.

Swedish House Mafia was also nominated in the category of best electronic, but that award went to David Guetta, who also received the award for best collaboration for the song "I'm good (Blue)" which he made together with Bebe Rexha.

Sunday's gala, which this year was broadcast from Düsseldorf, Germany, was hosted by artist Rita Ora along with director and screenwriter – and also partner – Taika Waititi.
