This opinion was expressed by international security analysts Ben Ollerenshaw and Julian Spencer-Churchill in an article for The National Interest.

“The inconvenient truth is that sacrificing oneself for Ukraine (or the Baltic states) is not in the interests of the Western powers, and Russia has built its nuclear arsenal accordingly,” the authors write.

In their opinion, Russia "cannot be contained, let alone defeated" by a policy of "minimal deterrence".

As Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, emphasized earlier, Russia has not yet used the entire available arsenal of weapons.

At the same time, on October 27, Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that Russia does not need a nuclear strike on Ukraine, it has neither political nor military meaning.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that Russia is strictly guided by the postulate of the inadmissibility of nuclear war.
