- With these purchase restrictions, we can imagine what it would be like if we could shut ourselves off from things that are harmful to the climate, says Erik Sandelin.

He is a PhD student at Konstfack and, together with Magnus Torstensson at the design studio Unsworn, has produced two different future prototypes where the idea of purchase restrictions is tested.

The models are not real but aim to start a discussion about future scenarios, financed by the innovation agency Vinnova.

Buy block says stop

On the one hand, the duo has created the website köppaus.se, where they play with the idea that people should be able to exclude themselves from buying animal products, petrol and air travel.

Once you have decided on a purchase ban for a certain period, you cannot undo it.

- We are driven by desire.

If you don't trust your future self, you can shut yourself off, explains Erik Sandelin.

The idea is that a system should react to each person's purchase restrictions when paying by card, scanning goods in a store or at a cash register.

Tested on shopping addicts

At the Mobilia shopping center in Malmö, they tested the idea of purchase barriers on passing visitors - but there the concept was expanded to also include barriers for those who have certain food restrictions, or for example want to eat less sugar.
