Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi have agreed on closer cooperation between the two countries.

Both presidents discussed a number of current issues during a phone call, the government in Moscow announced on Saturday.

The focus is on expanding cooperation in the areas of politics, trade and business, including the transport and logistics sector.

Moscow did not say when Putin and Raisi spoke on the phone.

Last Wednesday, a senior Russian representative traveled to Tehran to coordinate with Iran in the fight against "Western interference".

Both countries are affected by western sanctions.

Kyiv and the West have accused the Russian military of using Iranian Shahed 136 drones in its attacks on Ukraine's infrastructure.

Moscow denies that. Tehran admitted for the first time about a week ago that it had also supplied combat drones to Russia.

The Islamic Republic made a limited number of drones available to Russia before the start of the war at the end of February, it said.

Tehran has denied further arms deliveries since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression and the provision of missiles.

The Reuters news agency reported last month, citing top diplomats and senior officials, that Iran appears to have promised Russia the delivery of ballistic missiles and other drones.
