Today, Saturday, a massive fire broke out in a camp for the displaced in the city of Al-Khokha, south of Al-Hodeidah Governorate (western Yemen), consuming dozens of tents and homes for the displaced, leaving dozens of families homeless, without causing any human losses.

Local sources told Reuters that the fire completely destroyed more than 60 tents in the Al-Jishah camp for the displaced, in the coastal district of Al-Khoukha, which is under the control of the internationally recognized government.

The sources added that the fire caused great material losses to the camp, which shelters 1,200 families who were forced by war conditions during the past years to flee away from the areas of confrontation.

She also confirmed that the fire also damaged dozens of neighboring houses, and that more than 100 families are in the open and need alternative housing, after they lost their tents and all their possessions as a result of the fire, the causes of which are not yet known.

The government news agency said that the governor of Hodeidah directed, during his visit, today, Saturday, to the camp to provide urgent financial aid and compensation in kind to the affected displaced, in addition to providing alternative housing for the affected families.

The displaced people in Yemen - whose number is estimated at 4.3 million, according to the United Nations - are suffering from very difficult humanitarian conditions, amid the decline in support provided by relief organizations and severe climate fluctuations.
