Democrats are close to retaining control of the US Senate, with their candidate winning in Arizona, as former President Donald Trump prepares to announce his candidacy for the White House in 2024.

Three television networks announced the re-election of Democratic Senator Mark Kelly from Arizona.

With the victory of former astronaut Kelly over his Republican opponent, Blake Masters, the number of Democratic senators increases to 49 so far, a difference of one seat to ensure the majority, while the vote counting continues in Nevada and Georgia will be held in a second round on December 6.

Kelly's rival, Blake Masters, in Arizona, did not immediately admit defeat, while Trump wrote on his social network that some electoral machines did not work in Arizona, which led to "election fraud."

He called for a "re-election".

The White House said President Joe Biden called Kelly to congratulate him.

The day after tomorrow, Trump will announce his candidacy for the presidential election in 2024, his longtime adviser Jason Miller said.

The former president, who will be 78 when the 2024 election takes place, hinted at running in that election while campaigning for Republican candidates ahead of this week's midterm vote.

He stated that he would make a "very important announcement" the day after tomorrow.

"The day after tomorrow, Trump will announce his candidacy for the presidency," Miller told former Trump aide Steve Bannon in his famous podcast "Wordroom", marking the third time he has run, including his defeat to Biden in 2020.

With 211 seats so far, it looks like the Republicans will be able to achieve a slim majority in the 435-seat House of Representatives.

But control of the Senate may not be clear until the December 6 run-off in Georgia.

With the two parties tied with 49 Senate seats each, Democrats will retain control of the Senate thanks to the vote of Vice President Kamala Harris.
