The man, who is in his 70s, was born in Älvsbyn and started committing crimes already in the 60s.

He has made himself notorious as one of Sweden's worst fraudsters and has so far been sentenced to around 45 years in prison.

In May of this year, he was free again after a prison sentence and, according to the prosecutor, began to commit new crimes.

Left with a walker - without a bank card

Earlier last fall, it was discovered that the man allegedly tricked a 90-year-old woman into withdrawing money from an automatic machine through a story that he needed to exchange money and get help with a package.

At the ATM, the man watched as the woman withdrew money and when the money came, he took both the money and the bank card and then left, leaving the woman standing alone with a walker.

More crimes

During the time the man has been in custody for the crimes against the woman in Piteå, further suspicions have arisen about several similar cases.

Among other things, he allegedly tricked his way into a 96-year-old woman's apartment in Västernorrland by saying that the property owner would change the carpets in the apartment.

He then allegedly deceived the woman that a deposit fee was required and offered to withdraw money from the ATM.

The woman later discovered that both bank cards and cash had been taken from the wallet.

Acknowledge to some extent

The 70-year-old fraudster admits to all the cases of fraud he is suspected of but denies the thefts.

The prosecutor considers the state of evidence to be good as, in addition to the crime victims' testimonies, there are videos of the man from several ATMs where he withdrew thousands of kroner from his victims' bank accounts.

In addition, an elderly man who handed over his bank card to the fraudster has received the 90-year-old Piteå woman's card back instead of his own.

On Friday, the man was arrested on probable cause on suspicion of another six cases of aggravated fraud and two cases of aggravated theft.

The crimes are considered particularly serious when they are directed at elderly people.

The man was also re-arrested on probable cause for gross fraud and gross theft against the woman in Piteå.
