- We are one of many municipalities both in Värmland and in the country that will clearly feel if the government halves the support we received in the past, says cultural manager Fredrik Sjöstedt to SVT.

Can you see any reasonableness in lowering the state support for cultural schools in times of recession?

- We have approximately 300 students who receive lessons with us every week and the same number who are waiting in line.

We would like to receive even more resources, both from the state and the municipality.

- If we can't offer the students who want to come here and play instruments or theater lessons, that doesn't feel good, he continues.

Low budget for culture

Hammarö is one of the municipalities in the country that spends the least part of the budget on cultural activities, P4 Värmland has previously reported on this.

And in 2018, the cultural school was threatened with closure due to cutbacks in the municipality - something that created commitment among both students and well-known artists.

That risk does not exist at the moment, but a halving of state support could have other consequences, according to the chairman of the board of education, Lillemor Larsson (V).
