The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, described the killing of Al-Jazeera correspondent, Shireen Abu Akleh, as a very serious incident.

In an interview with Al Jazeera Network, Khan confirmed that his office had received correspondence about the incident and provided the Attorney General with more information about it, and said that Shirin's killing should be viewed in a general context marked by the escalation of the targeting of journalists around the world.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has referred the file of the assassination of Al-Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Aqleh to the International Criminal Court.

Last May, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki announced that he had handed over to the International Criminal Court the results of the investigation into the assassination of Shireen Abu Aqleh, which concluded that the crime amounted to a war crime.

Also, international lawyers, on behalf of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, the International Federation of Journalists and the International Center for Justice for Palestinians, submitted the file of the official legal complaint about the assassination of colleague Abu Aqila to the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in the Dutch city of The Hague.

The complaint includes official and media investigations and all recorded data and testimonies regarding the assassination of Shirin.

Colleague Abu Aqleh was assassinated, according to previous investigations, by an Israeli sniper while covering the storming of the occupation forces into the Jenin area in the northern West Bank on May 11, 2022.
