Three people were killed and two seriously injured in a shooting at a square near a police station in Chile.

According to Chilean daily newspapers such as El Mercurio and Latersera on the 9th local time, the gangsters who arrived in a car in Rirkai Square in the La Florida Autonomous District of Santiago the night before fired 70 bullets at citizens and fled.

Three people, including a public official, were killed in the sudden shooting.

Two people were seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

It is said that the victims were engaged in sports activities such as soccer at the time near this square, which is a 4-5 minute walk from the police station.

Chilean prosecutors believe the attackers used automated weapons.

One of the dead had 19 gunshot wounds, local media said.

There were no clues to guess the cause of the incident or any special relationship between the victims.

"The use of firearms and other weapons is becoming a daily routine," said Rodolfo Carter, La Florida municipal council president.

He also urged the government authorities to come up with a quick response.

The police are pursuing the whereabouts of the assailants.

In Chile, violent incidents using firearms have occurred frequently in recent years.

In May, Chilean presidential bodyguard Gabriel Borric was attacked and even the president's official vehicle was taken away by militants.
