Saab has around 70 employees at Skavsta Airport and is based in one of the hangars.

Here, among other things, are the socially important water-bombing aircraft that helped put out forest fires and that are handled by Saab since MSB bought them.

May be forced to cancel

TYA, the Transport Union's occupational and work environment committee, has investigated in a survey how the aviation industry views the supply of skills in the long term and three out of four companies respond that they will need to hire new people.

- If the work cannot be carried out, the machine must simply stay on the ground, which can result in both delays and canceled departures, says Åsa Backman, project manager at TYA.

Indispensable for the aviation industry

During the pandemic, large parts of the combined air fleet remained on the ground and technical personnel retired or sought new jobs in, for example, train traffic.

Aviation engineers decide whether or not a plane can take off and are therefore indispensable to the aviation industry.

Saab is now looking at new solutions to fill the gap, among other things they are investigating the possibilities of introducing a trainee program with internal training.
