In the clip, Pontus, who is serving his sentence at Rödjan, talks about what the job there means to him.

There are 57 cows in the barn waiting to be milked by the inmates who work there.

But first the cows must have food and the teats must be cleaned.

Everything happens routinely and in a fixed order.

- It means quite a lot to be able to work with the animals and make sure that they are well and at the same time make sure that I feel well, says Pontus, who is one of the inmates.

He applied himself to the farm and was allowed to start working there because he only has seven months left of his sentence and has been judged to belong in the open institution.

- I have sat in a higher security class before where there was more locking.

It's better here.

Misplaced due to lack of space

But the Rödjan institution is increasingly receiving clients who should actually be placed in an institution with a higher security level.

This is stated by Pär Ringhage, Seko's club chairman at the Correctional Service in Mariestad.

- It is serious and a major safety risk for both staff and inmates.

That this happens is due to the lack of space, it is very full everywhere within the Correctional Service.

According to him, this has led to more threats and violence between inmates, but no one in the staff has yet been hurt.

- We are not equipped for this and there is a concern among the staff about how they should meet these clients.

We have also found stabbing weapons, drugs and mobile phones that have been smuggled in to a much greater extent than before.

Changes the security procedures

In order to be able to meet increasingly difficult clients, the security work has been expanded at the institution, says Mohamad Mehanna, director of correctional services in Mariestad.

Among other things, an officer on duty must be introduced around the clock.

In Borås, the institution has just been expanded.

There, they emphasize that it is a secure job and that you get to help people.
