In the presence of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the UAE, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the State of Israel signed a memorandum of understanding during the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change for 2022 “COP27”, with the aim of moving forward with production projects Clean energy and sustainable water desalination announced last year.

The signing of the agreement was attended by the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, the UAE's Special Envoy for Climate Change, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, and the US Presidential Envoy for Climate Affairs, John Kerry.

The MoU was signed by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Maryam bint Muhammad Al Muhairi, the Minister of Water and Irrigation of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Eng. Muhammad Al-Najjar, and the Minister of Regional Cooperation in Israel, Issawi Freij.

The signing of this agreement comes within the framework of the “Prosperity” project, which includes two axes: the “Green Prosperity” program, which includes the development of a photovoltaic solar power plant with a production capacity of 600 megawatts with a system for storing electric energy in Jordan to produce clean energy and export it to Israel, and the “Blue Prosperity” program. Which aims to develop sustainable desalination projects in Israel to supply Jordan with about 200 million cubic meters of desalinated water annually.

Yesterday, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited the exhibition area and side events that are held on the sidelines of the conference. During the visit, His Highness toured the pavilions of the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and Egypt, where His Highness was introduced to the latest innovations presented in the field of environment, sustainable development and facing the repercussions of change. climatic.

His Highness was briefed on the projects presented by participants in the renewable and clean energy sector, as well as a number of awareness initiatives aimed at enhancing societal awareness of the issue of climate change.

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan praised the wide Arab and international participation in the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) and the distinguished organization of this prominent global event by Egypt, which contributes to strengthening international cooperation in facing the challenges of climate change.

His Highness also reiterated that the success of the conference supports the achievement of global climate goals, expressing the country's commitment to linking results and outcomes between the COP27 and COP28 conference, which will be hosted by the UAE next year.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Tunisian Prime Minister Najla Bouden Ramadan, on the sidelines of the session. During the meeting, the two sides discussed brotherly relations between the UAE and Tunisia and ways to enhance and develop bilateral cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

His Highness and the Tunisian Prime Minister also reviewed a number of files on the agenda of COP27, in addition to the UAE's preparations to host COP28 in Dubai Expo next year.
