The Republican minority leader in the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, says in an interview with CNN that Biden may be investigated if the Republicans win mid-term elections for the US House of Representatives.

Possible investigations could be the US withdrawal from Afghanistan and the origin of the corona pandemic.

He also keeps the door open to possible impeachment proceedings, something that primarily the most extreme representatives of his party pushed.

- We will never use impeachment for political purposes, says Kevin McCarthy, but at the same time emphasizes that there could be situations where impeachment can still be used.

Has Donald Trump's support

The 57-year-old Republican House Minority Leader is expected to take over as Speaker from Democrat Nancy Pelosi if McCarthy's party wins the election.

In the interview, McCarthy says he is confident his party will win a majority and that he is sure his goal to take over the House of Representatives has former President Donald Trump's support.

- I think Trump will give a lot of support, he says.

Trump was impeached twice during his presidency, in 2019 and in early 2021, but was acquitted both times by the then-Republican-controlled Senate.
