The traffic investments made between Kalmar länstrafik (KLT) and SJ started in December last year.

Before that, KLT had inspected all of its vehicles within the Krösatåg system, i.e. 47 vehicles.

According to KLT, it is done to see what kind of vehicle status all vehicles have.

After the inspection, it was decided which measures needed to be taken and in what order.

- We do it to raise the standard of the vehicles and so that we don't have trains canceled due to vehicle damage, says Katharina Seijsing who is the base unit manager for trains in the Kalmar County region.

Canceled trains have increased since last year

Despite measures, statistics from the Swedish Transport Administration show that the number of canceled trains between January and October in Kalmar County has increased since the same time period last year.

That is, from 6.0 percent in 2021 to 6.7 percent in 2022.

- The canceled trains are mainly due to a lot of vehicle problems.

The trains are old and need a lot of maintenance, which is what we are doing now.

During the summer, we also had a staff shortage.

The weather has also been the basis for canceled trains, says Katharina Seijsing.

Checks replacement traffic

Another part of the action program is to review the replacement traffic which, according to KLT, failed during the year because it did not run to the same extent as before.

- After the pandemic, there has been a general shortage of bus drivers throughout Sweden.

Since then, several companies have had difficulty getting staff at short notice, says Katharina Seijsing.

According to Kalmar county traffic, the action program is expected to be ready in February 2023.
