On Monday morning, the municipality communicated the problem and at lunchtime an important message (VMA) went out to the public.
- We could see that a chemical called potassium permanganate had gone into the water in excessive doses, which caused us to shut down the waterworks for safety reasons.
Now we have sorted out the technical problem, but need to clean the system and get an approved water test, says Katarina Paulsson, head of community development in Hylte municipality.
For the time being, the municipal water must neither be drunk, nor used for cooking, showering or washing.
Boiling the water does not help.
Water tanks in central Unnaryd
Just after half past four in the afternoon, water tanks arrived in central Unnaryd from Hylte's water source so that the residents could collect water.
The municipality is also investigating whether or how the discharge may affect people or animals that may have ingested the water.
