Debacle for Peter Feldmann:

The mayor of Frankfurt has been voted out.

The quorum, according to which at least 30 percent of those eligible to vote in the city had to vote for the SPD politician to leave, was reached.

Friday will be his last day in office.

Anyone in Frankfurt who is interested in local politics, and also those who follow with interest what is happening in this city outside of Frankfurt, has been waiting for this Sunday.

More than 500,000 citizens were asked to vote on Peter Feldmann's future.

By the time all polling stations were closed at 6 p.m., there had been a lot of activity in the more middle-class areas and much less activity in the others.

At the time, not everyone had the confidence to make reliable statements as to whether the quorum hurdle would be cleared;

many had hoped so.

In the past few days, the mood among Frankfurt local politicians of the anti-Feldmann camp has been cautiously optimistic, the street election campaign and a non-partisan poster campaign,

In fact, at 7 p.m. on election day, almost 100,000 votes for deselection were counted, and according to the official announcement, the 91,000 postal votes received had not yet been sighted.

Shortly after 8 p.m. it was said:

More than 196,000 citizens voted for deselection

, an overwhelming vote that Feldmann accepted during a brief appearance in front of journalists in the Römer.

In July, 71 of the 93 city councilors in Frankfurt signed the motion to vote out the mayor, who has been on trial since October on suspicion of accepting an advantage.

After Feldmann did not comply with the request, the referendum was terminated according to a defined procedure.

Prototype from the 19th century:

“Everyone has a personal heaven in heaven, where not only the stars shine constantly, but also the people who have touched us deeply.

One of them is my brother Georg Büchner.” With these words, the 76-year-old writer Emine Sevgi Özdamar accepted the Georg Büchner Prize 2022 from the German Academy for Language and Poetry in Darmstadt.

The Turkish-born writer, actress and theater director is the twelfth woman to receive the award.

One of her best-known books is the novel “Life is a caravanserai: has two doors, I came in from one and went out from the other”.

In 1991 she received the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize for an excerpt from it.

Her most recent work, “A Space Delimited by Shadows” was published in 2021 and was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize.

Craftsmanship and dedication:

Making Baumkuchen is laborious and requires a machine that is only meant for that;

there aren't many pastry chefs who do that anymore.

And there is Viktoria Poschenrieder.

A young master confectioner who makes nothing but Baumkuchen, in a small business in Oberursel, using the old production method, day after day.

Florentine Fritzen visited the bakery and describes what it looks like and smells like there and how layer by layer is created, what encyclopedias like to call the king of cakes.

Have fun while reading!

And in addition

, fraudsters in Wiesbaden have tried to steal money by calling people, posing as police officers, reporting alleged burglaries in the neighborhood and offering to keep money and valuables +++ calls the German Red Cross in Hesse and Rhineland -Palatinate on blood donations on +++ the verdict in a mammoth trial for the illegal drug online shop "Chemical Revolution" is to be announced on Monday, which is taking place in the Gießen district court and includes 500 cases.

Warm greetings from the editorial team and a good start into the new week
