According to Sweden's set goal, emissions in 2030 should be 63 percent lower than emissions in 1990. With regard to traffic, excluding domestic flights, the goal is for emissions to be reduced by at least 70 percent compared to 2010, by 2030 at the latest.

According to climate and environment minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L), the government has not lowered its ambition to reach the climate goal in 2030. Instead, it wants to work long-term, for example through investments in electrification and charging infrastructure.

- Our ambition is to build a long-term policy, a robust climate policy that is sustainable over time.

Not a policy that only works when we have a strong economy and no war in our neighborhood, says Romina Pourmokhtari.

"No time to wait"

The Green Party's spokesperson Per Bolund, former environment and climate minister, believes that the new government's climate policy means a step backwards in development.

The compensations that are planned to be made in the form of long-term investments are too risky.

- You have to make efforts here and now, to wait and postpone this issue in the future, that is what is dangerous, he says.

- I am actually terrified of where this policy will lead us.
