Geneva ends 'Eagle Brigade' program due to safety concerns

The Swiss city of Geneva has ended its anti-drone brigade "Eagle Brigade", a program designed to train birds of prey to intercept drones in mid-air and protect VIPs.

The Swiss newspaper, Le Matin Dimanche, reported that officials decided to end the five-year program, due to concerns about the safety of birds, according to the Bloomberg news agency today.

"Technological and strategic improvements, with regard to the use of drones, make this project using birds of prey highly uncertain and even a threat to the physical safety of vultures," the Geneva police press service told the newspaper.

The plan, initially drawn up in 2017, was to train the raptors to ram small drones, from the air, without the planes landing on the ground.
