Archpriest Mikhail Vasilyev, rector of the Church of the Great Martyr Barbara and St. Elijah of Muromets - the Patriarchal Compound in Vlasikha, Moscow Region, died in the special operation zone, the Russian Orthodox Church reported. Vasiliev, as a priest, previously participated in missions to hot spots and in peacekeeping operations in unrecognized Kosovo, Bosnia, Abkhazia, Kyrgyzstan, the North Caucasus and Syria.
“On the morning of November 6, 2022, a cleric of the Moscow diocese died in the zone of a special military operation in Ukraine while performing pastoral duties,” the Russian Orthodox Church said in a statement.
Vasiliev was born in 1971, he graduated from Moscow State University and the Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, was awarded the Order of Courage, the Order of St.
Sergius of Radonezh III degree and a medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" II degree.
