Al-Burhan warns the National Congress against harming the Sudanese army

The head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council and the commander of the army, Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, issued a warning on Sunday to the National Congress, the party of ousted President Omar al-Bashir, and the Islamic movement against harming the army.

Al-Burhan said during a meeting with army officers at a base in north Khartoum, "We warn the National Congress and the Islamic Movement against harming the army, and they must stop the army," without giving any details.

"The army does not belong to any party, and we will not allow the dismantling of the army or Sudan except on our bodies. We say to the force that targets the army, we will protect it with our lives," he added.

After the army overthrew the Bashir government in 2019 following months of popular protests, the authorities dissolved the National Congress Party and banned its participation in political life for ten years.

But the party continues to move in the political arena.
