There's a lot of difference between Mario Kart and Beauty and the Beast, but the chance for the characters of these worlds to meet is high at this weekend's Comic Con – a place where the magic of fantasy worlds is realized in everything from cosplay and game demos to creators and cartoonists.

Martin from Gothenburg is visiting with his twin brother Emil and his friend Emma from Småland.

Together, they have made their own interpretations of the video game Mario Kart through their costumes.

- Everyone here can come out of their shell and be themselves, says Marti.

For the ninth year, the weekend event is held and the passion to dress up as their favorite characters in a video game, movie or series, is growing more and more.

Cosplay is becoming more and more popular

- Cosplay has grown over the years that I have worked here.

Through this event, it reaches a wider audience, says Christian Kullman, project manager at Comic Con.

What was seen as geeky in the past is today the broad mainstream culture, explains Christina Kullman.

- It is what is consumed today, at the cinema or the toys you buy.

This world finally gets to reach everyone, he says.

A whole summer vacation later

Thirteen-year-old Elvira Hjälte is visiting the event for the second time in her life and has spent the entire summer vacation dressing up.

- I finished the last details this morning, says Elvira and continues:

- My confidence is boosted when I'm here!
