In October, my country's natural disasters were mainly floods, droughts, and low-temperature freezing disasters. Typhoons, earthquakes, hailstorms, snow disasters, geological disasters and forest fires also occurred to varying degrees.

A total of 965,000 people were affected by various natural disasters, 13 people died or missing due to the disaster, and 42,000 people were urgently relocated; more than 500 houses collapsed and more than 7,900 houses were damaged; the affected area of ​​crops was 445,000 hectares; the direct economic loss was 2.14 billion yuan .

Compared with the average of the same period in the past five years, the number of disaster victims, the number of dead and missing persons, the number of collapsed houses and the direct economic losses decreased by 90%, 51%, 95% and 80% respectively.

  The main features of national natural disasters in October are:

The flood situation and disaster situation in the rest of the country were generally stable, and no major dangerous situation occurred.

In general, flood disasters in October caused a total of 754,000 people in 9 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) to be affected, 34,000 people were urgently transferred and resettled, and the direct economic loss was 1.61 billion yuan.

Compared with the average of the same period in the past five years, the number of disaster victims, the number of emergency transfers and direct economic losses decreased by 81%, 62% and 70% respectively.

2. The drought continued in the south of the Yangtze River, and forest fires occurred in Hunan, Jiangxi and other places

  Affected by the continuous high temperature and little rainfall, the summer and autumn droughts occurred in the Yangtze River Basin in the early stage.

Since October, significant precipitation has occurred in the northern part of the Yangtze River, and the drought has eased; the drought in the southern part of the Yangtze River has continued, mainly in Hunan, Jiangxi and other places.

In addition, the continuous high temperature and little rainfall have caused high forest fire danger levels in some parts of the south, and forest fires have occurred in many places.

In October, a total of 157 forest fires occurred nationwide, mainly in Hunan, Guangxi, Jiangxi and other places; no grassland fires occurred.

  In October, there were 4 cold air processes in my country. The temperature in most parts of the north was slightly lower than the same period of the normal year, and the temperature in most of the south was slightly higher than the same period of the normal year.

From October 2nd to 6th, my country experienced the first cold wave weather process in the second half of this year, affecting most areas from north to south, severe cooling in the central and eastern regions, and low-temperature freezing disasters in Shanxi, Henan and other places, causing some crops such as potatoes and corn. Frost-damaged yields or no harvests were suffered, and the affected area of ​​crops was 174,000 hectares, with a direct economic loss of 420 million yuan.

The other cold air processes did not cause major disaster losses.

4. No typhoon landed directly in my country, and southern China was affected to a certain extent

  In October, a total of 4 typhoons were generated in the Northwest Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea, and no typhoons landed directly in my country.

Among them, Typhoon No. 20 "Nasa" was generated on October 15 and entered the South China Sea on the 16th. Affected by the typhoon and cold air, moderate to heavy rains and local heavy rains occurred in Hainan Island, southern Guangxi, and the western coast of Guangdong. , causing 42,000 people to be affected, more than 7,000 people to be urgently transferred and resettled, and direct economic losses of nearly 80 million yuan.

5. Four earthquakes of magnitude 5 or above occurred in the western region, without causing major disaster losses

  In October, a total of 9 earthquakes of magnitude 4 or above occurred in mainland China, of which 4 were of magnitude 5.0–5.9.

Two earthquakes of magnitude 5 or above in Xinjiang and one in Qinghai occurred in sparsely populated areas in the west without causing major disaster losses; a magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurred in Luding, Sichuan on October 22, which was a magnitude 6.8 earthquake in Luding, Sichuan on September 5. The aftershocks caused damage to a few houses and no casualties.
