"Japan and the UK are set to sign a major defense pact in December that will allow countries to strengthen cooperation with the United States in the Indo-Pacific region," the material says.

It is noted that the agreement will also contain the growing threat from the PRC.

According to the publication, the signing of the agreement will facilitate joint exercises and provide a legal basis for simplifying bureaucratic procedures when troops are sent from one country to another. 

On May 24, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that Tokyo has no intention of becoming a member of the AUKUS (Australia, UK, USA) alliance.
