Spokesman for the Afghan interim government, Zabihullah Mujahid, said today, Saturday, that his country is ready to open a new page with the United States.

He added - in a statement to Al Jazeera - that his country's negotiations with the US side are continuing in the Qatari capital, Doha.

The Afghan government spokesman also clarified that efforts to form a new government instead of the interim government had already begun.

On October 11 last, Qatar announced that the talks - which took place between Washington and the Taliban government in Doha - concluded "positive and constructive" outcomes, noting that the two sides agreed to continue communication between them in the coming period.

And Qatar News Agency "QNA" reported that high-ranking officials from the United States met with a delegation from the caretaker government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, over two days in Doha.

"Qena" stated that during the meeting, political, security and humanitarian issues were discussed, including issues of freedom of movement, human rights, good governance, and combating terrorism.

At the same time, the US State Department announced, in a statement, that the Doha talks with the Afghan Taliban movement during the past two days were "frank and professional."

She said the US delegation focused on security and terrorism concerns and providing safe passage to US citizens, other foreign nationals, and "our Afghan partners."

The Taliban formed an interim government in Afghanistan after taking control of the country, after the withdrawal of US forces in mid-August 2021.

All the movement's diplomatic efforts to secure international recognition have failed, as all world governments, especially Western ones, require the formation of a government that includes all spectrums of Afghan society, and respect for human rights, for official recognition.
