An 18-year-old Palestinian was killed by the Israeli army near the West Bank city of Ramallah.

This was reported by the Palestinian authorities, according to reports by 'Haaretz'.

The young man was from the city of al-Mazra'a ash-Sharqiya.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health says the young man was shot in the chest and taken to a hospital in Ramallah, where he was pronounced dead.

A second Palestinian was shot and seriously injured, and was taken to a Jerusalem hospital by the military.

Earlier, an Israeli army spokesman said he had received reports of stones being thrown at vehicles at a nearby intersection, and that Israeli forces in the area fired at the thrower.

No confirmation from the Israeli side, however, of the young Palestinian's death.
