The police were called to Eriksberg late one evening in December 2019 after several explosions were heard in the area.

At the scene, they found a man with a gunshot wound.

Already that night, four suspects were arrested, and in the end charges were brought against six people.

When the case was dealt with in the Uppsala district court in the spring of 2020, there was extensive evidence.

Among other things, DNA from one of the suspects on the weapon that was used, blood from the crime victim on another defendant and gunpowder splatter on several of the defendants' clothes.

But the district court chose to acquit the men on the grounds that it was not possible to prove which of them shot the man.

Jail for the shooter

The Svea Court of Appeal makes a different assessment.

Among other things, the court believes that the DNA on the weapon and primer particles on a pair of gloves prove that a 32-year-old man fired the shots at the victim.

According to the court, it is not clear that his intention was to kill the victim.

Therefore, he is not convicted of attempted murder but of aggravated assault.

The punishment is four and a half years in prison.

A 35-year-old is also sentenced for serious assault, to two years in prison.

The three other defendants are sentenced to between five and six months in prison for aiding and abetting assault.

The victim states that he still suffers greatly from the gunshot wounds, combined with injuries from an accident.
