Russia announced on Wednesday that it is resuming its participation in the agreement on Ukrainian grain exports after receiving "written guarantees" from

Ukraine

on the demilitarization of the corridor used for grain transportation.

"Russia considers that the guarantees it has received so far seem sufficient and resumes the implementation of the agreement," the Russian Defense Ministry said on Telegram.

Turkish President

Recep Tayyip Erdogan

also announced the resumption of Ukrainian grain transport on Wednesday across the Black Sea following a phone call between the Turkish and Russian defense ministers.

Turkey,

which together with the UN was the mediator of the agreement, has multiplied its diplomatic efforts to save the pact signed last summer by both sides.

Moscow had suspended its participation in the agreement, last Saturday after an attack on its fleet in Crimea.

Some attacks from which Ukraine had disassociated itself, attributing the destruction of several Russian ships to negligence.

In response to Moscow's withdrawal from the grain pact, the United States had accused Russia of leaving the developing world "

to starve

".

The pact signed between Russia and Ukraine had allowed more than 380 ships and

nearly 10 million tons of Ukrainian grain to be exported

through the Black Sea

,

helping to alleviate world food prices that had skyrocketed with the war.
