The 36-year-old Spaniard, winner of the first two Grand Slam tournaments of the year (Australian Open and Roland-Garros) to bring the record for major titles won to 22, was then handicapped by injuries (particularly before his semi-final at Wimbledon).
He also recently became a father for the first time.
