The Hessian Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU) described the result of the negotiations between the Prime Ministers of the federal states and the Federal Chancellor as a success.

The people in Germany now "finally have the long-awaited planning security in uncertain times," said the State Chancellery on Thursday evening.

And companies, municipalities, hospitals and care facilities as well as social and cultural institutions would also get the help they needed.

"That is the most important message of this day of negotiations," said Rhein.

Politicians have proven that they are capable of action.

Now it is important to get the agreed aid to the people as quickly as possible.

"Overall Success of Countries"

Rhein spoke of a "success of the countries as a whole".

Under their pressure, the federal government moved on key issues such as the gas and electricity price brakes, but also on regionalization funds and the refugees.

The countries, for their part, had also shown their willingness to compromise.

When it comes to financing the refugees, it has been possible to persuade the federal government to provide structural funding of 1.25 billion euros a year from 2023.

This stabilizes the payment to the countries.

However, in view of the rapidly increasing number of refugees, the amount is not high enough overall.

"We had hoped for more, especially in the interests of our communities," says Rhein.

That is why it was agreed with the federal government to talk to each other again about further developments at Easter 2023.

"But the truth also includes: The federal government is obliged to secure the borders."
