The Wall Street Journal reported today, Tuesday, that Saudi and American officials said that Riyadh had exchanged intelligence information with Washington warning of an imminent Iranian attack on targets in Saudi Arabia.

In light of this warning, the officials said, US forces in Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region were put on high alert.

The newspaper quoted Saudi officials as saying that Iran could take this action in order to relieve itself of the pressures caused by the ongoing protests since mid-September.

The Wall Street Journal quoted a spokesman for the US National Security Council as saying that Washington is concerned about the Iranian threats that Saudi Arabia has warned about.

The spokesman added that his country will not hesitate to work to defend its interests and partners in the region.

During his visit to Saudi Arabia last July, US President Joe Biden affirmed his country's strong and lasting commitment to supporting the kingdom's security and defending its lands.
