“I don’t think there is any other way than a ban,” Carr told the portal.

He expressed concern that the data of US citizens is allegedly transferred to China, and stated the risk that TikTok could be used to covertly influence political processes in the United States.

At the same time, TikTok noted that Carr is not involved in confidential negotiations with the US authorities related to the social network.

Commission Commissioner Carr is not involved in confidential discussions with US authorities related to TikTok and appears to be expressing views independent of his role as Commissioner of Communications.

We are confident that we are on track to reach an agreement with the US authorities that satisfies all reasonable national security considerations,” a TikTok spokesperson told the portal.
